Your Secret Weapon: The Game Master

Other escape rooms leave you totally on your own to solve puzzles and figure out clues. Every room at Extreme Escape Colonnade no matter the difficulty level is monitored by a live Game Master — a real human being watching the action unfold and ready to step in if any person thinks the team has hit a wall.

Think of the Game Master as your lifeline that helps you not waste time. They know the world of the room - every puzzle, where to find clues and twists they can catch you off guard. They won't give you the correct answer outright, because what's the fun in that? But they can offer strategic nudges to get your brain firing in the right direction.

How Hints Work in an Escape Game

If your team gets stuck and needs a push in the right direction to find hidden clues, here's how to get a hint:
Ask for one. It's that simple. Signal your Game Master that you need help, and they'll deliver 2–3 clues designed to move the game forward without spoiling the experience.
A few things to keep in mind:

Hints point you toward a solution — they don't hand it to you. The Game Master will help you think differently about a puzzle, not solve it for you.

There's no penalty for asking. Requesting a hint won't ruin your game. It'll keep it moving, and sometimes that's exactly what your team needs to find its footing and finish strong.

Unlimited hints are available. At Extreme Escape, you can request help as many times as you need throughout your 60-minute game.

When Do Most Teams Begin Asking For Help?

Hints are a part of the game that you can plan ahead for. Every group is different, but here are the moments when getting a hint can be a good idea:

  • You've searched the room thoroughly but can't figure out how a clue connects to the next step.
  • Your team is split on what to do next and going in circles.
  • Time is running low and you need to narrow your focus fast to crack codes and solve puzzles.
  • You've solved most of the room but one puzzle is standing between you and freedom.
Don't worry about looking wrong, and don't forget and wait until the last two minutes to get a hint. The best teams know when to ask for help early and keep the bigger picture in mind. What's most important is keeping the momentum going.

Leaving the Room

Need a break — or just need out? You can request to exit a live room at any time. There's no designated spot or cut off. Your safety and comfort always come first. Just keep in mind that once you exit, you won't be able to re-enter the room.

For players who feel anxious or claustrophobic, know that you are never truly locked in against your will. The Game Master is always watching, and help is always a signal away.

Tips For Getting the Most Out of Every Hint

Make your hints count with these quick strategies:

  • Regroup before you ask. Take 60 seconds as a team to share what everyone has found. You might already have the answer you just haven't connected the dots yet.
  • Tell the Game Master where you are in the puzzle. The more context you give, the more targeted the hint can be.
  • Split up after a hint. Once you have new direction, divide and conquer to make up for lost time.
  • Trust the clue. If a hint points you somewhere, go all in on exploring that direction before second-guessing it. You never know what you'll need to complete the puzzle.
