5 Things to do This Thanksgiving in San Antonio

Thanksgiving week is a great time to be in San Antonio. Our city is known for serving up delicious dishes and a whole lot of fun year-round. Add the November holidays that get everyone in high spirits and you’re sure to have a good time whether you’re a local, visiting family or on vacation.

Thursday is time for turkey, but what about the rest of the week? We’ve got you covered with what’s happening during the Thanksgiving holiday in San Antonio.

Pull Up a Seat for the River Parade

Forget about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. San Antonio has one of the most unique holiday parades in the country. Every year the Riverwalk turns into a nighttime parade route for the Ford Holiday River Parade.

Boats are transformed into brightly lit floats that cruise down the riverwalk for an hour. The event also includes the River Walk Lighting Ceremony and enough shopping to get something for everyone on your list.

This year the Ford Holiday River Parade is on Friday, November 29th from 6pm to 9pm. The theme is Texas Music Christmas, and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons will be the grand marshal. Twenty-six other Texas musicians will join Billy during the parade so it’s sure to be a festive event.

Gobble ‘Til You Wobble

Another San Antonio Riverwalk Thanksgiving event that you’ve got to try at least once is Gobble ‘Til You Wobble Thanksgiving Day Brunch at the Hilton Palacio del Rio. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Thanksgiving in San Antonio if you’re not into cooking and cleaning on your day off. For five hours you can stuff yourself with turkey from the carving station, soups made from scratch, chef-curated entrees and a decadent selection of holiday desserts.

Experience Winter Wonderland at the Parks

The theme parks prove San Antonio holidays are the best! The San Antonio Zoo, SeaWorld and Six Flags go all out for the holidays with amazing light displays, special winter wonderland attractions, ice skating, train rides and Christmastime treats. It’s such a good time Santa Claus stops by daily to join the fun.

Take Part in the Turkey Trot

On Thanksgiving most of us are so stuffed it’s hard to imagine that thousands of people go hungry every day in San Antonio. That’s why the San Antonio Food Bank holds the annual Turkey Trot 5K. On Thanksgiving morning you can burn some extra calories before gorging and help others fill their bellies.

If you’re not an avid runner that’s okay. The SA Turkey Trot is a kid-friendly, pet-friendly walk/run 5K. The race starts at 8:30am so you’ll still have plenty of time for a family Thanksgiving dinner after going the extra 3.1 miles for people in need.

But don’t take our word for it. Dozens of our corporate clients have given Extreme Escape five star reviews noting how much their team gained in a single hour playing our escape rooms.

All Types of Teams Welcome

Extreme Escape has hosted just about every type of team you can think of from Fortune 500s to schools in San Antonio. There’s a huge variety of businesses in San Antonio, and we’ve got an escape room experience for them all.

It’s Not Lame

Seriously, a lot of team building activities in San Antonio are pretty lame. They don’t get people excited, they aren’t creative and they are run of the mill. Basically, employees would rather be working than participating in a lot of team building activities. That’s something you won’t have to worry about with an escape room. Our corporate guests always tell us they had way more fun than they thought they would.

We Can Accommodate Large Groups

Whether you’re an agile team of four or a big department of 40 people, Extreme Escape can accommodate your group. Each location has four unique escape rooms, space for a catered lunch or powwowing after the playing and ample parking. We’ll even open early so your team can reserve the entire venue.

Easy Event Planning

Planning a large group event can be a real pain. We make team building in San Antonio super easy. So easy, all you have to do is show up at your scheduled time. There’s no need to find a venue, gather supplies, rent equipment or disrupt your workplace. Our team will work with you to make sure everything is ready to go so you can focus on getting the most out of the experience.

Made to Build Bonds

An escape room is loads of fun for players that work towards a shared goal. Both of those elements are key for building bonds. Shared goals encourage camaraderie and puts everyone on an equal playing field, regardless of what their role is at work. Research from Gallup has also shown employees that are friendly with each other are more engaged at work and more likely to stay at a company long-term. So go ahead and have fun together – it’s good for business!

5 Reasons Why Every Stone Oak Resident has to Visit Extreme Escape

Ever since escape rooms were introduced in the U.S. a few years ago they have steadily gained in popularity. Extreme Escape was the first to bring this popular pastime to San Antonio and the reception has been amazing.

Our newest location is in Stone Oak, and it’s already ranked as one of the best adventures in San Antonio. If you’re a Stone Oak resident it’s time to see why so many locals and visitors make a trip to our neck of the woods to see if they can escape the room!

You Can Have Fun With All Your Closest Friends and Family

There are very few activities where you can gather together up to 40 of your friends and family members together, but it’s totally possible at the Stone Oak Extreme Escape location. There are four different escape rooms that can accommodate up to 10 players each.

Want to make it a party? The Stone Oak location also has an event space that can be reserved for birthdays, graduations and any other type of celebration.

It’s Like Traveling Without Going Far From Home

Want to experience a new environment without having to pack your bags, get the house secured and buy an expensive plane ticket? You can explore outer space, venture into a parallel universe, delve into a Mayan tomb and dare to go into a witch’s lair deep in the woods just a few miles from home.

Rain, shine or blistering summer heat, our Stone Oak escape rooms always offer a comfortable retreat where you’ll get to experience something new.

Anyone Can Do It

You don’t need any special skills, athleticism or know how to have fun in our Stone Oak escape rooms. In fact, because it’s a collective effort there’s a good chance every player will contribute a little something to help everyone get further in the game.

Amazing Fun, No Screens or Internet Needed

Our escape rooms in San Antonio have been compared to a lifesize video game, but there’s one very distinct difference. An escape room is a way to completely unplug. There’s no internet connection or screens. The players are interacting with one another and using their wits rather than zoning out.

An escape room is a 3D experience without a headset or special TV. You’ll be surrounded by lifesize props, floor-to-ceiling set design and even smells that draw you into the game. If you’ve been looking for an entertaining way to disconnect you’ll find it at an escape room in San Antonio.

You’ll Be Supporting a Local Small Business That Gives Back

Perhaps the best reason every Stone Oak resident should visit Extreme Escape is you’ll be supporting a local small business that gives back. We love our community and strive to make Stone Oak the best place to live and play in San Antonio.

To show our appreciation we give our local military, EMT, police and firefighters discounts every Monday. We’ve also partnered with the Salvation Army San Antonio to raise money for their Christmas programs as well as other area charities.

5 Reasons Every New Student in San Antonio Has to Visit Extreme Escape

San Antonio is known for a lot of things, including being an entertaining town for college students. There are dozens of higher education institutions and around 100,000 students in the area. Lots of students hang out on campus, visit the Riverwalk and listen to live music at the Burleson Yard Beer Garden but there’s plenty of other fun to be had.

Extreme Escape is one place new students should definitely check out. Why? Here are five reasons to visit one of our locations.

#1 – It’s an Experience You Can’t Have Everywhere

When you go to college you’re working towards a degree, but you’re also spreading your wings. It’s a time for new experiences and trying new things. An escape room is a unique experience you’re not going to be able to have in every city.

College students in San Antonio have their pick of eight different escape rooms in two locations. Extreme Escape is the only place where you can venture into a parallel universe, go back in time to a magician’s lair or take on zombies.

#2 – Free Beverages!

Let’s be real. Every college student can appreciate free stuff. At both Extreme Escape locations we now offer complimentary beverages – including craft beer and wine for players that are 21 or older.

#3 – You Can Make New Friends

College is when you’ll meet people that end up being lifelong friends. One place you can do just that is Extreme Escape. Our San Antonio escape rooms accommodate up to 10 players at once, which means you may play with people you just met. We can’t think of a better icebreaker for new students than being locked in a room for an hour.

#4 – It’s the Perfect Place for a First Date

Many people don’t just meet friends in college, they also meet their significant other. But it all starts with that first date. An escape room is the perfect place for a first date for a few reasons:

  • You can go together or invite others to make it a group event
  • You’ll be in the middle of the game so there’s no awkward small talk
  • You can learn a lot about your date’s communication style and how they handle stress
  • You’ll see how well you work together as a team to solve problems
  • It’s a memorable experience that’s active rather than passive

#5 – It Will Mentally Prepare You for College Courses

Visiting a bar in the trendy King William neighborhood may be helpful for history and architecture majors, but for everyone else it’s simply a social pleasure. But at Extreme Escape you’ll get entertainment while building skills you can bring back to the classroom.

An escape room is like a life-size board game that requires strategic thinking, concentration, communication skills, critical thinking and teamwork. It’s so effective at honing these skills that we have Fortune 500 companies use our San Antonio escape rooms for team building. As a college student those same skills can help you nail your next exam or project.

Reserve an escape room in San Antonio to make friends, score big on a first date or get ready for the next semester.
