Getting Ready For Your Colonnade Escape Room Game

Your adventure starts before you ever walk through the door.

You've booked an escape room, but are you ready for the moment the door locks?
Booking your escape room at Extreme Escape Colonnade is the easy part. What separates the teams that successfully battle zombies, go beneath the earth's surface and get out of a twisted game show from the ones that don't?
Preparation. A little planning before game day can be the difference between walking out victorious and watching the clock hit zero with puzzles still unsolved.

How to Make It a Memorable Outing

Choose the Right Room For Your Group

Extreme Escape Colonnade has five immersive rooms, each with its own storyline, atmosphere and challenge level. Before you book, think about who's coming and what kind of experience your group is looking for.

Horror on Hallows Eve

A Halloween night gone terribly wrong. Great for thrill-seekers and horror fans.

Breaking Point

A twisted game show where facing your fears is the only way out. High intensity, high adrenaline.

Master of Illusion

Mind-bending puzzles where nothing is quite what it seems. Perfect for analytical thinkers.

Undead

A race against time in a zombie-infested location. Team coordination is everything.

Trapped Below

A collapsing mine shaft stands between your group and legendary treasure. Built for adventurers.

Book Early to Lock in Your Spot

All rooms at Extreme Escape are private rooms — your group won't be mixed with strangers. That's great news for your experience, but it also means rooms fill up fast, especially on weekends. If you have a specific date, time, or room in mind, don't wait. Book in advance to guarantee your spot.

Check For Deals Before You Pay

Before you complete your booking, check Extreme Escape's Facebook and Instagram pages for active promo codes and specials. Weekday discounts and other limited-time promotions pop up regularly — a quick scroll before you book could save your whole group money.

Getting Your Group Ready For an Extreme Escape Room Experience

Set the Right Expectations

If this is anyone's first escape room, take a few minutes to give them a quick rundown of how the game works. Let them know they'll be searching for clues, solving puzzles, and working against a 60-minute clock. Remind them that it's meant to be a fun challenge. Getting stuck is part of the fun, and that's what hints are for.

First-timers who know what to expect going in tend to stay calmer under pressure and contribute more to the team right from the start.

Pick Your Players Wisely

Escape rooms reward a mix of skills. When you're rounding up your group, think about what each person brings to the table, such as:

  • The Observer — Someone with a sharp eye who notices things others miss.
  • The Logical Thinker — Great at patterns, sequences, and math-based puzzles.
  • The Creative — Thinks outside the box when the obvious solution isn't working.
  • The Communicator — Keeps the team organized, delegates tasks, and makes sure no one's doubling up on the same clue.

You don't need all four in one group, but a team that plays to each other's strengths will always outperform a group of individuals working independently.

Agree on a Team Strategy

Before you walk in, talk through a quick game plan. A few simple agreements can save precious minutes once you're inside:

  • Communicate everything out loud. If you find something, announce it to the room — don't assume someone else already knows. And one thing everyone should make known is the time.
  • Don't hoard clues. Share what you find immediately so the whole team can help make connections.
  • Divide and conquer. Split up to cover more ground, then regroup when you need to combine what you've found. Decide on a time to regroup, for instance, after 10 minutes.
  • Know when to ask for a hint from the game master. Decide as a group how long you're willing to spend stuck on a puzzle. The agreed upon time is the signal to request a hint. You have unlimited hints but a limited amount of time, so use them both wisely!

What to Do the Day of Your Game

Arrive at Least 15 Minutes Early

This one is non-negotiable. All players need to arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes before your scheduled game time. Late arrivals don't just stress you out — they cut directly into your 60-minute clock. The game starts when it starts.

Plan your route ahead of time. Extreme Escape Colonnade is located at 9995 I-H 10 W, San Antonio, TX 78230, just off I-10 northwest of downtown in the Colonnade Center, between Wurzbach Road and Huebner Road on the east side of the highway. Parking is straightforward, but give yourself buffer time, especially on busy weekend afternoons.

Dress For Movement

You won't be running a marathon, but you will be on your feet, crouching, reaching, and moving around a fully immersive environment. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can move in easily. Layers are a smart call. Room temperatures can vary, and you don't want to spend mental energy being too hot or too cold when you should be focused on the puzzle in front of you.
Leave the bulky bags, loose accessories and anything you'd hate to lose at home or in your car.

Eat Something — But Don't Overdo It

An escape room is a mental workout. Show up hungry and your focus will suffer. Show up overstuffed and you'll be sluggish when you need to be sharp. A light meal or snack about an hour before your game is the sweet spot.

Get in the Right Headspace

This sounds simple, but it matters. Leave the work stress, the scrolling and the distractions in the car. Walk in ready to be present, observant and genuinely engaged. The immersive environments at the Extreme Escape Colonnade location are designed to pull you in from the first second.

Complete Your Waiver in Advance to Save Time

Save time on arrival by downloading and completing your player waiver before you get here. Every player needs to have one on file before the game begins. Getting this done ahead of time means you spend less time on paperwork and more time playing.

Large Groups & Co-Worker Outings

The Escape Room That Makes Corporate Team Building Actually Fun

Escape rooms aren't just pure entertainment. They're one of the most effective team-building experiences available, because the skills that help a team escape a room are the same skills that make teams perform at work: communication, delegation, creative problem-solving and staying composed under pressure.
And unlike traditional corporate events, this is one people will actually look forward to doing.

What Large Groups Need to Know

Extreme Escape Colonnade can accommodate corporate groups and large parties of all sizes. Here's how to make the most of it:

Book multiple rooms. Each room holds up to 10 players. For larger groups, book several rooms and run them simultaneously or back-to-back. This opens up a natural competition — which department, team, or group of friends escapes fastest?

Plan your room assignments strategically. For work outings, mix people across departments or teams rather than letting colleagues self-select into existing cliques. The goal is to build new connections and surface leadership in unexpected places.

Use it as a real leadership assessment. Escape rooms have a way of revealing who steps up, who communicates clearly, and who stays calm when the clock is ticking. You'll learn more about your team in 60 minutes than you would in a week of meetings.

Give it context. Before the event, frame the outing around what you want to accomplish — whether that's improving communication, rewarding a team for a big win, or simply getting people out of the office and laughing together. Teams that know the "why" behind the activity tend to engage more fully.

Celebrate after. Plan time post-game for teams to compare notes, recap their experience and debrief together. The shared experience of escaping, or almost escaping, is a natural conversation starter that carries momentum well beyond the event itself.
