Looking for a Family Night Activity? Try an Escape Room

In the Internet era it’s seems to be increasingly difficult to get the family together free of distractions and really interacting. And recent research shows quality time with kids is vital. A large-scale study published in the Journal of Marriage and Family shows that time spent with children doesn’t matter as much as what you do with them.

Activities where parents and children spend one-on-one time together giving all of their attention to one another has a positive impact on social behavior, emotional wellbeing and academic achievement. Even just a few hours a week makes a difference.

Wondering how you can get in this quality time and still keep the family entertained? A San Antonio escape room is one of the best ways to bring everyone together for an epic family night. Here’s why!

It’s Family Game Night for the Modern Era

Escape rooms are the best of both worlds. It’s like a real-life video game without the screens, electronics and Internet distractions, which is much more important than many parents realize. Being locked in the escape room together keeps everyone focused on the game at hand. There’s no pulling out a smartphone or wandering off to the kitchen for snacks like a regular family night at home.

An Escape Room is Age Appropriate for the Entire Family

At Extreme Escape we have eight different escape rooms across two locations. All of themes are appropriate for tweens and older individuals, and there are also a few rooms that are just as fun for younger kids. If you have players as young as 8 years old we recommend the Mutiny or Trapped Below escape rooms in San Antonio.

Encourages Communication and Interaction

The nature of an escape room game requires interaction among the players. Getting out of the room in 60 minutes or less is a group effort that involves teamwork and constant communication. That’s something you don’t get every day on a normal family excursion.

By the end of the game you’ll be communicating more clearly, which can be a benefit long after you’ve escaped the room.

Everyone Wins Together

Even if you have a family game night at home that usually means breaking people up into teams or acting as individual players. Some people will win and some people will lose.

At one of our San Antonio escape rooms the entire family wins together. It’s a real positive bonding moment for everyone. Up to 10 family members can play in an escape room together at the same time so extended family can get it on the fun too.

Honoring Heroes With Family Discounts

Every Monday is Heroes Play Free day at Extreme Escape. We offer huge discounts for military members, police officers, firefighters and EMTs along with their family members. Heroes play for free and family members enjoy 15% off each game.

It’s Okay to Have a Different Kind of Valentine’s Day in San Antonio

When Valentine’s Day rolls around your initial thought is:

  1. Hallmark holiday.
  2. Good thing I made dinner reservations right after New Years.
  3. What? It’s already almost Valentine’s Day?

Personally, this Valentine’s Day we’re going to enjoy our escape rooms in San Antonio. Why? Because we love them, and Valentine’s Day is all about love. But in all honesty, it’s actually one of the most fun things to do in San Antonio for couples whether it’s your first date or the 100th.

Really, our San Antonio escape rooms are the perfect Valentine’s Day idea no matter how you feel about the upcoming holiday. It’s definitely not a mainstream, cliche Valentine’s Day idea that’s for sure. It can be a romantic date in terms of the way it reveals things about your escape room partner and brings you closer together. And if the calendar changed to February but Valentine’s Day snuck up on you, then you need a break to have a little fun.

But seriously, Valentine’s Day should be spent doing something you love with someone you love. The places to go for Valentine’s Day in San Antonio are anywhere that you want to go. Make it a day that you take a break from the everyday norm and enjoy doing what you love to do.

The origins of Valentine’s Day may be stranger than The Other Side, but at least modern-day traditions are a little more flexible. Almost anything goes as long as you buy your sweetheart (or yourself) some chocolates.

If you’re a diehard romantic who thinks that idea is sacrilege consider this: the festival of Lupercalia, a Roman holiday that’s somewhat of a basis for Valentine’s Day, involved the sacrifice of a dog and a goat. Do you really want to be a stickler about doing Valentine’s Day the way it’s traditionally done?

Non-traditional Valentine’s Day activities have been growing in popularity the last few years thanks to the Galentines Day concept. Groups of female friends celebrate their friendships on February 13th instead of or in addition to a relationship with a significant other. It reached pop culture status when Parks and Rec aired a Galentines Day episode in 2010.

So this Valentine’s Day, don’t sweat putting together a super romantic (overpriced) date with all the standard-issue stuff. Plan a night of fun with your significant other, family, friends or roommate doing whatever makes you love life in San Antonio.

If you’re a history lover explore one of the five missions that were built hundreds of years ago. All you nature lovers can take a break from your urban lifestyle at the Government Canyon State Natural Area. And all of you puzzle-loving, crossword crushing, gaming enthusiasts can join us in a heart-racing escape room adventure.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Indoor Team Building Activities in San Antonio

Team work is an essential part of running a successful business no matter what industry you’re in. When your employees communicate well, respect each other and know everyone’s work style productivity dramatically improves.

The only problem for businesses in Texas is the blazing heat during half the year. A lot of team building activities happen outdoors, but if everyone is sweating to death they can’t focus on the team building aspects of the exercises. It’s more likely to cause aggravation and discomfort rather than team work.

But you don’t have to put team building on hold during the summer. There are team building activities you can do inside that are just as effective, if not more. Here are some of the best indoor team building activities in San Antonio to try on hot day.

Create a Company Promo Video in the Office

Creating an in-office promo video will spark your employees’ imaginations and give them a fun project to work on together. Take a day to have the team work as a collaborative group to come up with a theme, shots and production roles for each person. These days all you need is a smart phone to capture great footage that you can then share on social media.

You’ll get a marketing piece and help build team work among your employees.

Cooking Class With a Cause

The kitchen is a place that brings people together whether you’re an actual family or a work family. A cooking class will have you employees whipping up something special in a new way, and they get to eat their work when they’re done.

Add another element to the bonding experience by choosing a cooking class that also donates food to a charity. There are cooking classes that will deliver hot food items to soup kitchens or snacks and pantry donations to a food pantry. Philanthropy is a powerful engagement tool for employees and will bring them closer together as a team.

Build an Indoor Mini Golf Course

Physically building things is a highly effective team building activity, especially if the build requires a number of people. Golf is also known to be a great relationship builder. You can combine the two ideas by building your own mini golf course in the office.

You can get a mini golf course build kit from TeamBonding.com with everything you need to build an office course. Employees work together to construct the course then get to have fun together trying it out.

Company Brain Bowl

How much do your employees know about each other and the business? Host your very own company brain bowl to find out.

Break employees into groups of four or five and get ready for an hour or two answering trivia questions specifically about your company. All you need is a list of questions about the company and employees along with tablets or smartphones that have a buzzer app installed. Go the extra mile by creating awards for the winning team.

At the end of the game everyone is a winner because all the players know more about each other and the company.

Get Out of a San Antonio Escape Room

Escape rooms are a group activity that challenges your problem solving skills, which make them the perfect indoor team building activity. Teams of up to 10 people have 60 minutes to find clues and solve puzzles in order to get out of the room in time. Needless to say, in that 60 minutes you’ll learn a lot about leadership skills and how people communicate.

Extreme Escape is an escape room in San Antonio that caters to businesses that want to improve their team work. We’ve had Yelp, USAA and many other companies come to Extreme Escape because they’re looking for fun indoor team building activities in San Antonio that really work.

Since we have four escape rooms at each San Antonio location up to 40 employees can play at once. After you’re done escaping the room relax in our lounge or arrange to have a catered lunch delivered.

Call today to reserve escape rooms for your next team building event!

Indoor Team Building Activities for Adults in San Antonio

No Matter What the Weather’s Like Outside, You Can Enjoy Fun Indoor Team Building Activities for Adults in San Antonio

Is your work team or group of friends looking for something new to do that doesn’t require an outdoor excursion. Some of the best adult team building activities in San Antonio aren’t traditional group events hosted by a corporation. They’re thoroughly fun adult team work games that provide a unique experience and help participants improve a variety of skills.

Conquer Your Fear of Heights With Indoor Skydiving

Conquering a fear is easier when you’ve got moral support. The iFly location in San Antonio allows you and a group of friends to experience the weightlessness and freedom of skydiving without braving the elements or the extremely dangerous heights. Think of it as a modern, high-flying version of a trust fall.

Expand Your Cultural Horizons at ArtPace

ArtPace is a very unique space that houses artists from Texas, the U.S. and around the world for four months at a time. Groups can visit ArtPace to see the artists’ work and take part in interesting workshop events. For instance, you can learn how to make craft cider at home or work together to build a sculpture using zip ties. You never know what will be on the calendar next.

Have Fun Together a DoSeum ReDo Event

The DoSeum is a fun time for people of all ages, but during ReDo events it’s strictly 21 and up. Grown-up groups can build strong bonds reliving their favorite childhood activities at a themed ReDo night. Guests get complimentary drinks, appetizers and access to all of the kids exhibits where they can build and learn. Not only do you get to spend quality time with your team, your ticket purchases will also help fund DoSeum programs.

Explore an Escape Room in San Antonio

There’s no better adult team work games than escape rooms. Each escape room is decked out from floor to ceiling in a theme that goes along with the storyline of the game to completely immerse the players. But simply solving puzzles isn’t the only challenge. A group of up to 10 players only has 60 minutes to escape in time.

A San Antonio escape room is an activity that requires group effort and communication in order to win the game. You’ll quickly find out who is a natural leader, who has a knack for puzzles and who has attention to detail for finding clues.

How to Get in the Spirit This Halloween at a San Antonio Escape Room

Halloween in San Antonio is a very festive time of year. There are ghost tours all over town. Six Flags Fiesta Texas puts on its annual Fright Night. Halloween parties and haunted houses are also in abundance.

But there’s another spooktacular way to celebrate the Halloween holiday. An escape room in San Antonio is the perfect way to bring out the Halloween spirit in people of all ages. If you haven’t tried an escape room yet, now is the time to treat yourself.

Keep reading to find out why lots of San Antonio locals are visiting Extreme Escape this Halloween.

It’s Even More Realistic Than a Haunted House

Sure, haunted houses are fun for people who like a good scare. But most of the time haunted houses fall a bit short in their set design. This is understandable given that they are usually a temporary space that’s built quickly.

A San Antonio escape room on the other hand is a truly immersive environment. Our escape rooms are designed by theme park veterans and built to last. That means no cheesy, cheap decorations. We’ve gone to great lengths to create a space that really draws the players in with realistic decor, props, sounds and smells.

Another Bonus: Instead of paying top dollar to spend 5-10 minutes in a haunted house, you’ll get a full hour to explore an escape room in San Antonio.

You Can Get a Good Fright

If being spooked is part of your Halloween fun, we’ve got an escape room for you. The Undead, a zombie filled lair, is one of our most popular escape rooms. If monstrous aliens are more your thing Encounter will definitely raise your blood pressure. Freaky paranormal activity awaits you in The Other Side escape room. Or go for a classic Halloween ghoul by taking on a witch in the Cursed room where you may become a victim yourself.

The storyline and setting will make your heart race without making you uncomfortably terrified. For younger players Mutiny is a great option. It’s got cutthroat pirates, but keeps things somewhat mellow so it isn’t too scary.

Being in Costume Really Gets You Into the Game

At Extreme Escape dressing the part is totally acceptable year round. Being in costume can even help you get into the game and make you feel more immersed. Want to break out that old pirate costume – go for it. Going as the cast of Stranger Things this Halloween? That’s perfect attire for The Other Side. Rather than standing out you’ll fit right in!

Halloween Activity You Can Do With the Whole Family

Some Halloween activities are only appropriate and enjoyable for a certain age group. Escape rooms are the exception. Kids as young as nine years old can play Mutiny and the Lost Tomb. All the rooms are designed to entertainment teens and adults with a thrilling fright.

Don’t forget to check out the Extreme Escape Facebook page to find special discounts and deals during the holiday week.

Happy Halloween!

How to Earn the Title Elite Escapist

After the thrill of your first escape room experience, you want more. You’ve just got to see what’s waiting behind the door of other room escape games and find out if you have the wits and grit to make it out in time.

You want to become an elite escapist.

Elite escapist is a designation that isn’t just handed out after your first game. It’s earned by repeatedly pushing your creative thinking to the max under the pressure of a ticking clock. Think you’ve got what it takes?

6 THINGS ELITE ESCAPISTS HAVE IN COMMON

It’s safe to say that elite escapists are in a class all their own. It takes a certain type of person to become an escape room master. If you’re that type you probably embody these six elite escapist traits.

They Can’t Pass Up a Good Challenge

Some people like to coast in life and never really push themselves. Then there are the escapists and others like them who thoroughly enjoy a good challenge. Escapists are the type that think the harder it is, the better an escape room experience will be.

Extreme Love for Puzzles (That Borders Obsession)

If you can’t get enough of mind bending puzzles, then you just might have what it takes to be an elite escapist. Puzzles are an essential part of every escape room, which is what gets elite escapists hooked.

They’re Ready for Anything

Elite escapists know to expect the unexpected. The fact that you have no idea what’s behind the door of an escape room is a big part of the fun.

They Respect Diverse Skill Sets

Because you never know what you’re going to come across in an escape room, elite escapists enjoy having teammates with a diverse skill set. It may be the one place where knowing Latin or trigonometry actually comes in handy.

Their Attention to Detail is on Point

If an elite escapist didn’t have keen attention to detail before they got into room escape games they’ve cultivated the talent since. When any small piece of the set design could end up being a clue you start to notice everything.

They Value Experiences With Others

Elite escapists aren’t sitting at home playing a video game or board game by themselves. They’d rather spend time with family and friends experiencing something that everyone will reminisce about for years to come.

BECOME AN EXTREME ESCAPE ELITE ESCAPIST

Extreme Escape has top rated escape rooms in San Antonio that will make anyone a fanatic. Players that take on all eight of our San Antonio escape room games will have the chance to discover a secret hidden away by an evil genius and get to compete against other teams to see who can score the best completion times.

How Room Escape Games Work

Escape rooms are a relatively new type of live action game that immerses players in an unfamiliar environment. A group of players enters a themed room and the door is locked behind them. The goal is to get out of the room, but how that’s achieved depends on the adventure you choose.

Every San Antonio escape room offers a new challenge, however there are three key factors behind how they work.

Scenario

Each escape room challenge has a unique scenario that puts you and your team in a new situation. Our escape the room games are a truly immersive experience for players. Floor to ceiling décor, life-size props, sound effects and theatrical lighting make escape the room games feel like you’re in another time and place. It’s easy to get lost in the game as you work your way through the escape room.

Find and Solve the Clues

To complete an escape room challenge you must find and solve a series of clues. Typically, you’ll receive the first clue or task when you enter the escape room, you’ll have to work a little harder for the others. Each clue that’s solved and task that’s completed gets you one step closer to getting out of the room.

Time Limit

Finding and figuring out the clues can be tricky, but that’s not the only escape room challenge you’ll encounter. Once the door closes you’ll have 60 minutes to complete the task at hand and escape. If you aren’t able to complete the challenge within an hour your team loses. Don’t let the added pressure of the timer throw you off your game!

What to Expect During Your First Escape Room Challenge

We highly recommend booking room escape games well in advance, especially if you have a large group. You’ll first need to decide which of the room escape games you want to play to guarantee you get to experience a specific challenge.

Once you arrive, the employee at the front desk will give you a form to fill out and explain what you can expect while you’re in the room. After all the signed forms are collected the fun can begin!

The team will be given a walkie talkie so you can communicate with Extreme Escape employees once you’re inside the room. As soon as the door shuts a timer on the wall will begin to count down giving you an hour to solve the clues. You’ll also hear the voice of the “gamemaster” over the loud speaker explaining the scenario and the task you must complete.

This is when your team will start organizing and trying to figure out the first clue. Everyone (who may or may not know each other) has to work together to win together. You’ll have to handle the pressure and keep your wits as you work through the clues towards your escape.
