Have Indoor Fun With the Kids This Winter in San Antonio

Try a Few of These Fun, Physical Team Building Activities for Kids When the Weather Cools Off

San Antonio is famous for outdoor activities like the Riverwalk and the Tower of the Americas observation deck. Most of the year the weather is more than warm enough to enjoy these outside attractions, but during the winter most people want to take the fun indoors. This is especially true if you have kids.

Good news, parents! Kids don’t have to hunker down in the house all day. There is a great selection of fun indoor activities for kids in San Antonio, including team building activities that help them develop valuable skills.

Stargaze at the Scobee Education Center Planetarium

When it’s cold out it’s not the best time for stargazing – unless you’re in a planetarium. The Scobee Education Center has a fantastic planetarium that’s open every Friday night year round. There are three shows:

Attack of the Space Pirates at 6:30pm

Sky Tonight Live at 7:30pm

Black Holes at 9pm

Get there 30 minutes early to be the first in line for tickets. Seating in the planetarium auditorium is on a first come, first seated basis.

Visit the Witte Museum

A shared history is one effective way to bring people together no matter how old they are. The Witte Museum covers Texas history from the time dinosaurs roamed the area to modern day. It’s a Smithsonian Institute affiliate so you know the exhibits are top notch. There’s also a variety of hands-on indoor activities for kids. The H-E-B Body Adventure and paleontologist sand pit are two of the top exhibits your kids have got to try.

Try an Indoor Playground

Outdoor playgrounds have been popular for years, but they aren’t always comfortable in the middle of winter. Instead, take the fun inside at an indoor playground. Facilities like Just Add Children have massive indoor playgrounds with everything you’d find outdoors plus even more like ball pits and bounce houses.

If your kids want to jump around there are also indoor trampoline parks with equipment for kids of all ages. It’s actually a lot safer than a traditional outdoor trampoline since there are foam pits and lots of padding.

Evade the Winter Weather in a San Antonio Escape Room

Board games are fun on a cold winter’s night, but if your kids are antsy to try something with a little more physical activity a San Antonio escape room is the perfect option. Escape rooms are like life-size board games that put players in the middle of the action. Each room is completely decked out with props, lighting and even smells that transport players to another time and place as they race to solve clues.

Extreme Escape has created escape rooms that are actually one of the best indoor team building activities for kids in San Antonio. Kids team work is needed to make it out of the room in time, which prompts kids to communicate and band together rather than working as individuals.

Have a Fun Escape With the Family

Here’s Why a San Antonio Escape Room is the Perfect Family Entertainment

There’s an amazing selection of family activities in San Antonio, which is one reason why Homes.com has ranked Alamo City in the top 5 family-friendly cities in the country. Local families enjoy great schools, low cost of living and high quality of life. The thousands of families that visit San Antonio every year get to experience the vibrant culture and entertainment options they can’t find at home.

One of those unique San Antonio Texas activities for families is playing an escape room game. Escape rooms are popular among young adults and companies looking for a fun team building event, but they’re quickly becoming an epic family night activity.

At Extreme Escape we’ve perfected family fun with thoughtfully designed escape rooms that bring families closer together like never before.

Appropriate for All Ages

Having families of our own, we knew we wanted to create world-class escape rooms players of all ages could enjoy. Many escape rooms are clearly designed for teens and adults, but each Extreme Escape location has two adventures for players as young as eight years old.

If you have young kids you can’t go wrong with one of these escape rooms:

Everyone Interacts to Win as One

Has it been a while since you and your kids worked on a project together? Having a common goal is a great way to bring family members together and create stronger bonds. Activities with shared goals, like escape rooms, puts everyone on the same level and encourages collaboration. This is extremely important in the workplace, but it’s equally important within a family.

NO PHONES!

Any parent of a tween or teen will tell you getting their kid’s attention off the phone is a serious challenge. In an escape room it’s easy since phones aren’t a part of the game. It’s a blissful hour of spending time together without any devices in the way.

Year Round Fun

An escape room is one of the best indoor family activities in San Antonio. For starters, there’s the climate control – a must during the blazing heat of summer. It’s also an activity that can be enjoyed year round. There’s no established season, it doesn’t matter what the weather’s like outside and you can play any day of the week.

Family Discounts

Every Monday we show appreciation for military members and first responders with the Heroes Play Free special. Active military members, firefighters, police officers and EMTs play for free and family members get a 15% discount.

We regularly offer other discounts that can be used by families to make the fun even more affordable!

Escape the Room Solutions and Tips for First Timers

Your first escape room challenge is sure to be an exhilarating experience that makes the video games and board games you’ve played in the past feel tame. During escape the room games players are submerged in the action after being locked in a themed room. The goal is to figure out how to escape the room within an hour.

Escape room games have become extremely popular in recent years, but for many people it’s still a relatively new concept. If you’ve never experienced a San Antonio escape room before the tips below can help you navigate your way to success!

Take a Minute to Come Up With a Game Plan

Once the clock starts ticking most people rush into the first challenge, but this could end up costing you time. After factoring in that some of the players could be complete strangers, it’s easy to see how things can get confusing very quickly.

It’s often best to take a minute to discuss the first challenge as a group and come up with a game plan. That way everyone is on the same page and you won’t retrace each other’s steps. If possible, try to book an escape room just for your group to make things little easier the first time around.

Don’t Overthink It

Sometimes the simplest solution is the answer. Room escape games feature tricky puzzles, but don’t make them more difficult than they actually are. Approach the puzzle very straightforward at first to avoid missing the easy answer.

Get a New Perspective If You’re Stuck

Have you been staring at a puzzle to no avail while minutes burn away on the clock? Get another team member to take a look. A fresh perspective could be exactly what you need to rethink the clue and solve it. Remember, you may have to try something 20 different ways before you find out what works.

Pay Attention to the Details

Stepping into one of our San Antonio escape rooms can feel a little overwhelming at first. The room is decked out from floor to ceiling to create a fully immersive space that’s like it’s own world. With so much going on it’s easy to overlook important details.

Combat the overstimulation by taking a step back. Look at the larger picture and then focus in on the details that didn’t pop out before.

Think of All the Ways an Object Can be Used

In an escape room challenge, objects aren’t always what they seem. The primary function of an object or tool may not be the intended use for solving a puzzle. If you’re stuck, start thinking of all the different, non-traditional ways an object can be used.

Keep Objects Organized

You’re going to tear through dozens of objects on your hunt for clues and solutions. Organization can be the determining factor in whether you escape the room in time. When you find a key, leave it in it’s lock so it’s out of the way and easy to locate again. It’s also a good idea to separate out objects that have already been used as well as objects that are related. You may want to designate a spot in the room for organizing and displaying the objects you find.

Keep an Eye on the Clock

It’s easy to forget about the time when you’re lost in puzzles. Appoint at least one person in the group to keep an eye on the clock and announce intervals to the group. For example, you may want to announce the time remaining every 10 minutes. Once you get down to five minutes, let the group know the time after each minute has passed.

Ask for Hints

Many San Antonio escape room purists frown down upon asking for help, but it’s completely acceptable to ask the gamemaster for hints. If you get stuck and have tried everything you can think of, go ahead and get a little extra help.

Have Fun!

The most important thing is that your team has fun while you play. Getting stuck on a puzzle can try people’s patience and cause frustration. But at the end of the day escape the room games are meant to challenge you to think outside of the box. Even if you don’t escape the room in time, you can have a great time testing your critical thinking skills, using your imagination and celebrating each puzzle you solve.

Why You’ve Got to Try the Master of Illusions Escape Room

Master of Illusions is a premier escape room for adults in Colonnade San Antonio. Experienced escapists, like the experts at Room Escape Artist, will tell you there are two things that make Master of Illusions special.

Right away, every escapist appreciates the amazing 1920s era set design. We’ve gone all out with decor, lighting, audio/visual effects, props and aromas for a multi-sensory experience. Every part of the room is decked out to create the remarkable ambiance that Room Escape Artist noted was way above average.

We’ve also nailed the other critical element of escape rooms – the puzzles. There aren’t generic puzzles in the Master of Illusions escape room. Our game masters came up with never before seen themed puzzles that keep players invested in the storyline. They have the right amount of difficulty to make solving each one a challenge without becoming a frustrating hassle.

Unlike some other San Antonio escape rooms, Master of Illusions is equally fun for novice and experienced escapists. It’s a feat that many escape rooms can’t accomplish. Come see if you have the wits to solve the puzzles and get out of this magically magnificent escape room.
