Why Escape Rooms Make the Best Date Night in San Antonio

You’ve been playing the field for a while and you’ve finally worked up the nerve to ask that special someone out on a date. You have endless options for a date night in San Antonio, but you’re looking for something unique that will leave a lasting impression.

What you’re looking for is a San Antonio escape room adventure.

There are a lot of reasons why an escape room in San Antonio makes a great first date. Let’s explore some of those reasons and how you can wow on your first date like never before.

Get a Feel for Communication Style in an Escape Room

Strong relationships are based on good communication. There’s no better way to figure out someone’s communication style than an escape room.

All of the players have to work together and share information if they want to win the game. During the game you’ll get a feel for how your date communicates. Do they take on a mediator or leadership role while communicating? How clearly to they communicate? Are they responding to the way you communicate?

All this and more will be revealed while you try to escape the room.

But There’s No Pressure to Make Small Talk

You’ve got to communicate while playing an escape room, but there’s no time for awkward small talk. You’ll be too busy trying to solve clues and show off your sleuth skills. Plus, when you’re done with the game you’ll have something interesting to talk about!

You’ll See How Your Date Handles Pressure

If you want to see how your date handles pressure reserve an escape room. Extreme Escape has eight escape rooms that each offer a unique challenge that has to be met in 60 minutes or less. When the door closes the pressure is on! Can your date handle it?

You Can Turn It Into a Group Date

Dates can be really stressful when it’s just you and your romantic interest. A group date is less formal and more relaxed, which may be more your speed. If that’s the case, an escape room game night is the perfect excuse for getting a group together.

Up to 10 people can play an escape room together. Plan on inviting a few of your friends and get your date to bring a few friends along too for a group date everyone will enjoy.

It’s Super Fun

No first date is a bummer when you have fun. Even if things don’t pan out romantically, you’ll still get to share some laughs and have a great time testing your wits in a new way. Find out why players think Extreme Escape is one of the most fun things to do in San Antonio!

It’s a First Date They’ll Always Remember

One of the most important things about a first date is making it memorable. Escape rooms offer a one-of-a-kind experience that you don’t get to have every day. Battling zombies, exploring another dimension and getting out of an ancient tomb is something no one will soon forget.

Winning Escape Room Strategies

If you want to best the clock use these tips for escape room games.

You’re sure to have a memorable experience playing an escape room in San Antonio, but there’s no denying victory makes it even sweeter. But are there escape room strategies that can give you an edge?

Beating an escape room game takes wits, cunning and coordination to be sure. However, if you want to increase the odds of making it out on time try these tried and true insider tips.

Pick Your Fellow Players Wisely

Who you play with can make all the difference between getting out in time versus missing a win by a few minutes. You’ll want a team of players that have a diverse skill set because you never know what challenge you’ll come across. We often tell people that even a small kid can be an asset because you may just need their small hands.

Bonus Tip: Make someone the group leader. This will help facilitate clear communication (an essential element) and keep things organized. Instead of running around, the group leader receives information from players, keeps everyone informed and assigns tasks.

One of the best tips for escape room games

Know That Escape Room Clues Are Everywhere

If you expect the clues to be obvious you may miss them. Go into the game knowing that anything and everything in the room can be a clue. We fill our San Antonio escape rooms with floor-to-ceiling decor that draws you into the game and provides plenty of places to hide clues. With that said, you shouldn’t have to dissemble anything to get to a clue.

Bonus Tip: Always check under things. It’s a common place for hiding clues out of plain sight.

Ask for a Hint When You Need It

All escapists want to win the game completely unassisted, which is possible. But sometimes you just get stuck and can’t figure out a puzzle or find the clue you need. You watch those seconds turn to minutes feeling the pressure build.

That’s when it’s time to ask the game master for a hint. Most escape rooms will allow you to ask for a hint once or twice in the game so use the option wisely. The game master won’t give you the answer, but they give you that extra piece of information that keeps the game moving along.

Bonus Tip: Watch out for red herrings. They are the exact opposite of a game master hint.

Resist the Urge to Cluster

With just 60 minutes on the clock, the best strategy is to divide and conquer. If everyone gets clustered together in the same spot or working on the same task it’s not the best use of your manpower, especially if you are in a nonlinear escape room. One way to avoid clustering is to assign a portion of the room to each player. If things seem to stall rotate and have everyone move to a new portion.

Pay Careful Attention to the Instructions

Failing to pay attention to the game master instructions is a rookie mistake. This is when you learn about how the room is set up, the types of codes and puzzles you’ll come across and may even pick up a covert clue that will help you during the game.

It’s just one way Extreme Escape is helping bring joy and fun to San Antonio!

ALL ABOUT THE SALVATION ARMY ANGEL TREE PROGRAM

The Angel Tree Program is one of the Salvation Army’s biggest events of the year. It was started in 1979 by a couple in Virginia. Charles and Shirley White had local kids write their Christmas wishes on a card that had pictures of angels. The cards were then put on a tree at the local mall so that shoppers could pick a child in need and donate the wish list items. In the first year alone more than 700 kids were given a merrier Christmas.

The Whites kept the giving tradition going after moving to Nashville several years later. It was there that the Angel Tree Program, as it was then known, got national attention. Today, The Salvation Army is the sponsor and arranges Angel Tree programs across the country every year.

How Room Escape Games Work

Escape rooms are a relatively new type of live action game that immerses players in an unfamiliar environment. A group of players enters a themed room and the door is locked behind them. The goal is to get out of the room, but how that’s achieved depends on the adventure you choose.

Every San Antonio escape room offers a new challenge, however there are three key factors behind how they work.

Scenario

Each escape room challenge has a unique scenario that puts you and your team in a new situation. Our escape the room games are a truly immersive experience for players. Floor to ceiling décor, life-size props, sound effects and theatrical lighting make escape the room games feel like you’re in another time and place. It’s easy to get lost in the game as you work your way through the escape room.

Find and Solve the Clues

To complete an escape room challenge you must find and solve a series of clues. Typically, you’ll receive the first clue or task when you enter the escape room, you’ll have to work a little harder for the others. Each clue that’s solved and task that’s completed gets you one step closer to getting out of the room.

Time Limit

Finding and figuring out the clues can be tricky, but that’s not the only escape room challenge you’ll encounter. Once the door closes you’ll have 60 minutes to complete the task at hand and escape. If you aren’t able to complete the challenge within an hour your team loses. Don’t let the added pressure of the timer throw you off your game!

What to Expect During Your First Escape Room Challenge

We highly recommend booking room escape games well in advance, especially if you have a large group. You’ll first need to decide which of the room escape games you want to play to guarantee you get to experience a specific challenge.

Once you arrive, the employee at the front desk will give you a form to fill out and explain what you can expect while you’re in the room. After all the signed forms are collected the fun can begin!

The team will be given a walkie talkie so you can communicate with Extreme Escape employees once you’re inside the room. As soon as the door shuts a timer on the wall will begin to count down giving you an hour to solve the clues. You’ll also hear the voice of the “gamemaster” over the loud speaker explaining the scenario and the task you must complete.

This is when your team will start organizing and trying to figure out the first clue. Everyone (who may or may not know each other) has to work together to win together. You’ll have to handle the pressure and keep your wits as you work through the clues towards your escape.

Looking for a Family Night Activity? Try an Escape Room

In the Internet era it’s seems to be increasingly difficult to get the family together free of distractions and really interacting. And recent research shows quality time with kids is vital. A large-scale study published in the Journal of Marriage and Family shows that time spent with children doesn’t matter as much as what you do with them.

Activities where parents and children spend one-on-one time together giving all of their attention to one another has a positive impact on social behavior, emotional wellbeing and academic achievement. Even just a few hours a week makes a difference.

Wondering how you can get in this quality time and still keep the family entertained? A San Antonio escape room is one of the best ways to bring everyone together for an epic family night. Here’s why!

It’s Family Game Night for the Modern Era

Escape rooms are the best of both worlds. It’s like a real-life video game without the screens, electronics and Internet distractions, which is much more important than many parents realize. Being locked in the escape room together keeps everyone focused on the game at hand. There’s no pulling out a smartphone or wandering off to the kitchen for snacks like a regular family night at home.

An Escape Room is Age Appropriate for the Entire Family

At Extreme Escape we have eight different escape rooms across two locations. All of themes are appropriate for tweens and older individuals, and there are also a few rooms that are just as fun for younger kids. If you have players as young as 8 years old we recommend the Mutiny or Trapped Below escape rooms in San Antonio.

Encourages Communication and Interaction

The nature of an escape room game requires interaction among the players. Getting out of the room in 60 minutes or less is a group effort that involves teamwork and constant communication. That’s something you don’t get every day on a normal family excursion.

By the end of the game you’ll be communicating more clearly, which can be a benefit long after you’ve escaped the room.

Everyone Wins Together

Even if you have a family game night at home that usually means breaking people up into teams or acting as individual players. Some people will win and some people will lose.

At one of our San Antonio escape rooms the entire family wins together. It’s a real positive bonding moment for everyone. Up to 10 family members can play in an escape room together at the same time so extended family can get it on the fun too.

Honoring Heroes With Family Discounts

Every Monday is Heroes Play Free day at Extreme Escape. We offer huge discounts for military members, police officers, firefighters and EMTs along with their family members. Heroes play for free and family members enjoy 15% off each game.

It’s Okay to Have a Different Kind of Valentine’s Day in San Antonio

When Valentine’s Day rolls around your initial thought is:

  1. Hallmark holiday.
  2. Good thing I made dinner reservations right after New Years.
  3. What? It’s already almost Valentine’s Day?

Personally, this Valentine’s Day we’re going to enjoy our escape rooms in San Antonio. Why? Because we love them, and Valentine’s Day is all about love. But in all honesty, it’s actually one of the most fun things to do in San Antonio for couples whether it’s your first date or the 100th.

Really, our San Antonio escape rooms are the perfect Valentine’s Day idea no matter how you feel about the upcoming holiday. It’s definitely not a mainstream, cliche Valentine’s Day idea that’s for sure. It can be a romantic date in terms of the way it reveals things about your escape room partner and brings you closer together. And if the calendar changed to February but Valentine’s Day snuck up on you, then you need a break to have a little fun.

But seriously, Valentine’s Day should be spent doing something you love with someone you love. The places to go for Valentine’s Day in San Antonio are anywhere that you want to go. Make it a day that you take a break from the everyday norm and enjoy doing what you love to do.

The origins of Valentine’s Day may be stranger than The Other Side, but at least modern-day traditions are a little more flexible. Almost anything goes as long as you buy your sweetheart (or yourself) some chocolates.

If you’re a diehard romantic who thinks that idea is sacrilege consider this: the festival of Lupercalia, a Roman holiday that’s somewhat of a basis for Valentine’s Day, involved the sacrifice of a dog and a goat. Do you really want to be a stickler about doing Valentine’s Day the way it’s traditionally done?

Non-traditional Valentine’s Day activities have been growing in popularity the last few years thanks to the Galentines Day concept. Groups of female friends celebrate their friendships on February 13th instead of or in addition to a relationship with a significant other. It reached pop culture status when Parks and Rec aired a Galentines Day episode in 2010.

So this Valentine’s Day, don’t sweat putting together a super romantic (overpriced) date with all the standard-issue stuff. Plan a night of fun with your significant other, family, friends or roommate doing whatever makes you love life in San Antonio.

If you’re a history lover explore one of the five missions that were built hundreds of years ago. All you nature lovers can take a break from your urban lifestyle at the Government Canyon State Natural Area. And all of you puzzle-loving, crossword crushing, gaming enthusiasts can join us in a heart-racing escape room adventure.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
